Inspired by the true story of India's first Sumo Wrestler, 'SumoDidi’ is a story of grit, determination, and will-power of a girl from a simple, middle-class Indian family who defies fat shaming by making the excess weight perceived to be her weakness into her strength and ultimately represents India on the global stage in the sport of Female SumoWrestling giving a firm response to all those who objectify women basis
their weight.
Born in the idyllic lanes of north Kolkata, Jayant progressed from chasing kites to chasing coveted degrees in business and commerce. He quit to pursue theatre and advertising. He has been directing television commercials for 15 years. Some of his noteworthy brand campaigns are for Kinley, Maaza and Dabur. His debut feature film ‘Sumo Didi’ were official selections at the
Tokyo International Film Festival 2023 and the Palm Springs International Film Festival 2024, where it was also voted into the Best of Fest films.
