Haran Kaveri is a Kuala Lumpur-based filmmaker with a background in Film from ASWARA, Malaysia’s National Academy of Arts. Passionate about storytelling, he gravitates toward raw, unspoken narratives and societal taboos, using cinema as a medium to challenge perspectives and spark conversations. His work often explores the struggles and resilience of Malaysia’s working-class communities, blending realism with deeply personal storytelling. With a keen eye for human emotions and cultural nuances, Haran aims to create films that are both thought-provoking and emotionally resonant, bridging the gap between independent cinema and mainstream audiences. Shobaan is an independent filmmaker based in Kuala Lumpur, passionate about bringing the untold stories of Malaysian Indians to the screen. With experience in short films, music videos, and commercials, he made his feature film debut with Metro Maalai, which he co-wrote and co-directed with Haran Kaveri. Committed to the spirit of indie filmmaking, Shobaan navigates the challenges of low-budget production to create raw, authentic narratives that reflect the struggles and aspirations of Malaysia’s middle class. His work seeks to amplify underrepresented voices and capture the everyday realities of life with honesty and depth.
