When a town aspires to become a big city, it often brings about unbridled change to its people and places. Doing this, begins to challenge its identity. The sentimentality of the past is cornered and the chaos of a capitalist city overtakes. Set against the backdrop of the world’s biggest spiritual festival, The Kumbh Mela, this film presents the observations of a daughter who watches her father struggle to not let his ancestral single screen theatre evaporate into a mall. Simultaneously, her provincial home town Allahabad is being renamed and its historic architecture mindlessly razed to ground under the promise of modernity. But is razing the past the only way towards development?
