Two disappearances unsettle Kolkata’s Prafulla Nagar: Totoro, the young son of Sub-Inspector Sanjay Konar, and Sara, a Swedish researcher studying shamans. Their fates intertwine around one enigmatic man, Trilokadarshi Baba. Once known as Tilu, a boy haunted by violence and visions of death, Trilok grows into a mystic who seems to perceive the boundaries between the living and the beyond. As Sanjay’s search unfolds, the line between truth and faith begins to dissolve. Sara’s buried guilt, Trilok’s unsettling serenity, and the shadow of forgotten crimes pull the investigation into a realm where reason begins to fracture. What starts as a police case becomes a meditation on belief, redemption, and the illusions that shape human understanding. When Trilok disappears, leaving only silence behind, one question lingers: was he a fraud, a prophet, or merely the reflection of what lies unseen within us all?
Post screening Q&A with director Samik Roy Choudhury and actor/ producer Sanat Chattopadhyay in attendance.
Born and raised in Kolkata, India, a city steeped in art, culture, and cinema, Samik was immersed in creativity from an early age. His father, a stage actor, his mother, a classical singer, and his grandfather, a writer, together shaped an environment where storytelling and performance were a way of life.
During his college years, Samik had the rare opportunity to learn the nuances of editorial aesthetics from Mr. Dulal Dutta, the legendary editor of all Satyajit Ray films. The experience deeply influenced his cinematic vision and approach to storytelling.
After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication, Samik began his career as a science reporter for the Science Association of Bengal. His creative journey took a transformative turn when he joined Rhythm & Hues Studios, the three-time Oscar-winning VFX powerhouse, where he gained hands-on experience in the evolving language of modern filmmaking.
His debut feature film, released theatrically in 2024, earned widespread critical acclaim and multiple accolades across film festivals, along with popular honors such as the Filmfare and Anandalok Puraskar awards.
Continuing to push boundaries, Samik’s upcoming projects Mushroom and Maya Satya Bhram explore diverse genres, bridging the realms of the past and the future, and reaffirming his place among the most visionary storytellers of contemporary Indian cinema.
