Kaushal Oza is an alumnus of FTII, Pune and a two time winner of the National Film Award. Born and raised in Bombay, Kaushal trained for 5 years in the inter-collegiate circuit. He then joined FTII and graduated in Film Direction.
His first short film, Vaishnav Jan Toh, won the National Award for the Best Debut Film of a Director. It was followed by his second short film, Afterglow, which too won the National Award making Kaushal the only FTII student in the illustrious history to have won the coveted award for consequtive short films. The film was also a part of a package of Best Short Films in 100 years of Indian Cinema in the Clermont Ferrand Short Film Festival. After a very successful festival run Afterglow proved to be very popular on YouTube garnering 1.5 million organic views.
In 2021, Kaushal founded Luminoso Pictures and the production house's first project was the short The Miniaturist of Junagadh. Kaushal wrote and directed the film starring Naseeruddin Shah, Rasika Dugal, and Raj Arjun. The film premiered at New York Indian Film Festival and was screened in over 25 International Film Festivals garnering 7 Best Film Awards. The film has been a critical and popular success with 3 million views on YouTube since its release.
In 2024, Kaushal wrote and directed his first feature film, Little Thomas, starring Gulshan Devaiah and Rasika Dugal, and produced by Anurag Kashyap amongst others. The film had its world premiere in Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
